Overview
The Nikon SMZ1270 and its intelligent counterpart, the SMZ1270i, are premium zoom stereomicroscopes tailored for materials science, industrial manufacturing, and failure analysis. With an outstanding 12.7:1 zoom ratio (0.63×–8×), these models combine a broad field of view at low magnification (making it easy to scan large samples) with high magnification for detailed inspection. The optical design uses apochromatic (Plan Apo WF) and ED (extra-low dispersion) Plan WF objectives to deliver bright, crisp, and color-accurate images throughout the zoom range. The i-version (SMZ1270i) features an intelligent USB data-link port that reports zoom position to image-acquisition software, automating calibration as magnification changes. Ergonomically, the system supports tilting and trinocular tubes and offers a double-objective nosepiece system for extended flexibility without repositioning the specimen. Its robust build, excellent optics, and smart imaging capabilities make it ideal for demanding inspection work in research and production.
