ECLIPSE FN1

Overview
The Nikon ECLIPSE FN1 is a purpose-built upright microscope designed specifically for demanding electrophysiology (patch‑clamp) experiments. Its streamlined, low-profile design ensures unobstructed access for microelectrodes, while long working distance objectives enable clear visualization of deep regions in thick biological specimens. By leveraging infrared (IR) DIC optics, the FN1 can resolve fine structures at depths that conventional visible-light systems struggle with. The system also minimizes noise — both electrical and vibrational — to help maintain signal fidelity during sensitive recordings. With a sliding nosepiece that safely lifts objectives when changing magnification, the FN1 protects delicate optics and chamber setups, and its ergonomic placement of the focus knob and field diaphragm ring makes critical adjustments more accessible, even in tightly confined setups. For flexibility, the microscope supports modular height adjustment (via spacer), removable substage/turret, and a variety of condensers, making it suitable for a wide range of experimental configurations.

Other Features
-
Long working distance objectives and up to 45° approach angle make electrode placement easier.
-
Sliding nosepiece lets the objective retract (up to ~15 mm) when changing magnification, preventing collision with manipulator or chamber.
-
Noise reduction: fiber illumination and ground pin connections help reduce electrical noise; structural rigidity minimizes vibration.
-
Adjustable height: by inserting a spacer between body and arm, the microscope height can be raised by 10–30 mm to accommodate larger experimental setups.
-
Removable condenser, turret, and substage provide space flexibility for custom experimental configurations.
