Summary

This course will present novel telemedicine workflows to enhance patient and staff safety and practice efficiency during and after the COVID-19 crisis.  New workflows include the use of hybrid telemedicine visits which  combine in-office work-ups including OCT and ultra-widefield imaging with virtual consultations.

Dr. Houston received a degree in materials engineering from the University of Florida. He graduated AOA from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and was a Heed Fellow during his ophthalmology residency at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Dr Houston completed a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital where he was a Ron Michels Fellow. He has an interest in innovative digital healthcare technology and worked with esteemed faculty at Wills Eye Hospital developing telemedicine solutions for eye care. His research credits include over 60 peer-reviewed papers and presentations as well as several book chapters. Dr. Houston is a vitreoretinal surgeon and Partner and at Florida Retina Institute and is heavily involved in surgical innovations employing 3D digital video approaches for retinal surgery. Dr. Houston is the CEO and co-founder of HealTheia, a telemedicine software company developing novel workflows and solutions for eye care, with the goal of creating a seamless virtual eye care ecosystem across all sites of care.
